Celebrating National Foster Care Month

Here at the Real Life Real Music Foundation, we’re passionate about music. But, that’s not the only thing we’re passionate about! Along with all of our musical projects, we’re constantly looking for ways to support the causes and issues we believe in- through funding, education and song. One of the causes that weigh heavy on our hearts is foster care.

This May, during National Foster Care Month, we want to use our voice to educate on this issue, and how important it is to help. In Texas alone, there are roughly 30,000 children in the foster care system and 3,378 waiting for adoption, as reported in 2019. These numbers are staggering. Many of these kids end up in the system as a result of neglect and abuse. We believe that caring for these children, showing them love and giving them a place to stay is our responsibility as citizens. Together, we can give these kids a home.

In partnership with our sister non-profit, A Place to Stay Texas, we released the Foster EP and the A Place to Stay Tour for Foster Awareness with Radney Foster and Kyle Hutton a few years back. To this day, both of these projects work to raise funds and support for other local foster and adoption nonprofits, and provide our community with education on these issues like never before.

It’s no secret, not everyone is cut out for foster care, or even adoption. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make a difference. Simply making a donation and educating others about the need for fosters in our area makes an impact! Helping out foster families in your area by providing a meal, helping run errands or acquiring certification to provide short-term respite care can make a huge difference in these families day-to-day lives. After all, the true heart behind foster care is community, taking each other in and providing care to another like you would your own family. Ask others what you can do to help!

And to all the foster families, adoptive families, respite care families, caseworkers and everyone in between, thank you. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these kids.
